A tensioning sleeve is a crucial component used primarily in the construction and engineering industries for post-tensioning (PT) systems.

Its core purpose is to anchor a high-strength steel strand or tendon and transfer its immense tensile force into a concrete structure.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of what it's used for and how it works:

Primary Purpose: Post-Tensioning

Post-tensioning is a technique to strengthen concrete. Concrete is very strong in compression but weak in tension (it cracks easily). By tensioning (pulling) high-strength steel tendons after the concrete has been poured and set, engineers put the concrete into a state of compression. This compression counteracts the tensile forces that will later be applied by loads (like cars on a bridge, or people in a building), preventing cracks and allowing for longer, thinner, and more complex structural designs.
